The Garden of Earthly Delights

“My concept for this project is to design for a contemporary dance performance inspired by the triptych ‘The Garden of Earthly Delights’ by Hieronymus Bosch. The dance will consist of three acts, each inspired by a panel of the triptych.

The costumes for the human characters will be designed to create a nude illusion, with simple silhouettes inspired by contemporary dance-wear and a focus on creating texture within the textiles inspired by the impasto texture of Bosch’s paintings.

The costumes for the inhuman characters will take inspiration from a mix of visuals from the original painting, European folk costume and religious symbolism.”
